Public concern and Government initiatives to create a 'safer environment' and address the security threats of terrorism have thrown the spotlight on the private security industry. The new Security Industry Authority (the SIA) sets out to transform the industry and its Licence to Practise are mandatory for many people working in the sector.
Our Security portfolio is set out below to enable you to match to the most suitable qualification available to your needs.
National Certificate for Door Supervisors (Scotland)
Can you deal with difficult situations in a calm, confident and safe manner? Do you enjoy nightlife but are always alert to any potential problems? Ever thought about working as a door supervisor? Sounds like a tough job? It’s even tougher without the right training and qualifications.
As a door supervisor you could be responsible for checking and searching people as they enter a building, dealing with conflict and emergencies, and restraining individuals if necessary. You could work in venues such as pubs, bars and clubs.
Sounds like your kind of thing? If you work, or want to work, as a door supervisor for the pubs and clubs of Scotland you have to have a Licence to Practise from the Security Industry Authority (SIA) from 1 November 2007. One of the requirements of a Licence is that you will need to complete a qualification, such as our Certificate in Door Supervision, which has been approved by the SIA.
The certificate takes you through everything you need to know about the roles and responsibilities of a door supervisor, as well as how to deal with difficult, and sometimes even violent, situations. It will help you to recognise when people are becoming aggressive, or things are getting heated and potentially dangerous, and equip you with the skills needed to calm things down before they get out of hand.
To get this certificate you will need to complete 30 hours of training by an approved City & Guilds training provider. After this you will be assessed by taking a two-hour multiple-choice exam.
CCTV
Do you want a job where you help keep people safe and prevent crime? If you do, then working as a CCTV Operator definitely fits the bill. As the use of CCTV widens, this is a role which is becoming much more professional, so employers are looking for people with qualifications like these.
Security Guarding
The role of the security officer is becoming ever more important and complex. This award is to help both private sector and public sector security officers develop their skills and prepare for the constant challenges they will face in their role.
Close Protection
Do you want a job that’s really interesting? Well, close protection is about as interesting as you can get: high profile employers, foreign travel and real responsibility. It’s not the easiest job you could choose – not by a long way – but if you have this qualification then you will have real proof of your skills.
